Fusion Hybrid problem solved. . .by rebooting car?

Interesting post in the last week from Steve in which he described an odd problem that occurred with gauges. Basically the needles on the PWR, ACC, and MPG readouts were bouncing around sporadically and at the same time the numerical readout for MPG just stayed at 0.00. Thought I'd elevate this to a post to see if anyone else has had a similar problem.

Ford dealership didn't really know what to make of it. But, the good news is that the problem corrected itself after the Fusion Hybrid was turned off and back on several times.

Which leads one to think: sounds a hell of alot like the problem was solved by "rebooting the Fusion" so to speak. Which would make sense because, as Steve points out, the car is basically like one big computer.

If anyone else has had similar behavior please give us a post with details of what happened and how it was solved.

  1. Thought I should share a somewhat related story to this that may shed some light. About 1 month after ownership I had both my wife and my phones lose connection to sync. We tried to set them up again but the sync button actually did nothing on the wheel or the console. We brought it in and they were surprised as they hadn't seen it. It was like Sync was dead. Scheduled an appointment and a few days later found the car completely drained of battery. We hadn't left on the lights or anything like that. It just drained its battery over night. Got a jump and took it down to the dealer. They spent 3 days with it trying to find the issue.

Finally through that hotline Ford system they get updates from they found there is an issue with Sync in some cases where it will take a large battery draw even when turned off. They reset things and I assume updated Sync ( I didn't get the Nav feature as it was previous to that). Since then Sync is fine and no more power issues. I wonder though if what you are seeing could be related. Since your phone's lost connection to Sync as well as the gauges acting weird it had me thinking.

Another heads up. I just found the fordfusionforums.com site and have been posting over there. Its another good resource for owners. They have a FFH section.

  2. Had a similar thing happen last summer. Went on vacation and came out one morning to find battery completely drained.

Called roadside assistance, they came right away, towed the car to the local Ford dealership. Ford charged battery and ran diagnostic. Found nothing wrong. Told me I had left the lights on.

Hmmm, I had the car parked all night right in front of the hotel lobby. . .and no one had noticed and told the front desk that a car's lights were on. Not likely.

I had also noticed that about a week before the USB cable that I use to charge the phone had stopped working. Just gone dead. No phone connection via USB. May be related to this.

Thanks for posting this, you may have shed some light on this mystery.

  3. I did not have any power (dead battery issues) as my lights go off after a set time. Even if I leave the trunk or a door open the lights go out and not on again until you close/open again. The phone never went out when I had the dash problem because I was able to dial and have the Health Report done thinking that may tell me what happened with the dash readouts (it never did).

It is still a mystery but it looks like I am not alone with these glitches.
And Ford has been great about trying to get to the bottom of it and not just dismissing the complaints.

Thanks for the info on the forum site.

  4. I purchased a Fusion hybrid about a month ago. We went on a 2700 mile trip with 500 miles on the odometer. At about 2000 miles, the milage (on the computer) had creeped up to 45 to 55 (bar graphics where leaves are). At about 2500 miles, the GPS quit updating my route (when I went a different way than they suggested). I could not get the route function to work until I stopped and cycled the key on/off several times. During this time, the computer reset the milage reading (in the leaf box) to zero and changed the bar graph to leaves. The gas milage dropped to low to mid 30 mpg. Stopped to check air in tires. Was 34 psi hot, filled to 44 hot. MPG went to high 30s average.

    Something happened, but what?

We just got back from the trip so I have not been able to ask Ford yet.
